As Professor Emerita of Global Studies, I’ve lived and worked in Southeast Asia for over forty years.
I’m interested in worlds – this world, that world, the worlds in-between; and how humans and non-humans find refuge across them. I’ve written Cambodian peace walks and Filipino feminist theologians’ frameworks for ‘just peace’ for both Communist and Muslim insurgencies in light of the US war on terrorism and more broadly on feminist theological approach to US Empire. I’m currently most fascinated with religious imaginaries of communities at the margins and how they often include non-human actors (spirits, animals, plants) who offer various forms of invisible aid through dreams, occult signs, possession, and apparitions.
